Job Overview

The Service & Project Director (Europe) is responsible for providing engaged and inspirational leadership for the European team delivering business critical services to our Customers.  The successful candidate will be responsible for direction and engagement of a variety of functions including: project management, technical, local service engineering, global specialist installation and outsourced partner resources to ensure best efficiency and maximum performance output.

Fully accountable for the delivery of budgeted profitability, the role will apply rigorous cost control and governance methods to ensure best value for all Company spend and maintain a zero-tolerance approach to waste.

The role will champion a continuous improvement approach to all operations, probing for opportunity for leaner processes and improved efficiency including the sharing of competence across country borders, whilst ensuring the organisation is a best-fit to provide industry leading services and solutions.

The successful candidate will be an ambitious and driven professional, with relevant experience of implementing change and process improvement into a multi-site operation.  They should have an interest in managing internationally and be able to travel to visit Gunnebo offices, key suppliers and Customers.

As a varied and diverse role, it will be important to bring wide-ranging experience including demonstrable track-record of working at a senior level within a Security and/or Technology business, and knowledge of gaining maximum advantage from resource planning software.

•Responsible to the VP EMEA for the day-to-day operational delivery of project installations and services

•Plan and implement the overall Service and Project Management strategy for the region

•Budgetary responsibility for delivering pre-determined gross margin and unit result across Service and Installation P&Ls of c€30-35m revenue per annum

•Delivery of all customer SLAs and internal KPIs to exceed expected contractual standards

•Manage all operational risks and issues through to successful resolution

•Lead and implement the centralisation and hub strategy for project management, technical and installation functions

•Monitor the organisation and continually refine structures to ensure best process and cost efficiency

•Oversee full implementation of the Poland based specialist installation function into core European operations

•Support the implementation of new Service Management software (D365) to improve resource efficiency

•Closure and outsourcing off all non-core functions such as local warehouses and transportation facilities

•Evaluation of local service functions, with focus on reducing cost of service 

•Improving service levels by leveraging new and existing partnership relationships and external providers

•Utilise software and tools to build greater cross-border collaboration and creation of virtual teams

•Drive the continual improvement of process and efficiency within all aspects of delivery

•Identify process bottlenecks and implement solutions in a timely manner

•Implement leadership techniques to ensure a 'measure, monitor and manage' culture across all teams

•Develop project management and service delivery procedures, policies and standards

•Participate in pre-sales activity, including solution design, services proposals, tender responses, and pricing

•Develop strategic plans to improve the overall performance and cost / value of service and installation

•Deal promptly and effectively with escalations received within own team or other managers

•Nurture a strong and trusting relationships with key customers and sales colleagues

•Own the tactical relationship and continual improvement plan with service and installation partners 

•Represent the interests of all Gunnebo in relation to performance and financial best value

•Maintain financial control, own the P&L to ensure robust monthly invoice checking, approval, and correct assignment

•Use and follow-up of Corporate IT systems relevant for the business and according to policies

•Collaborate with Sales, Business Development, IT, HR and Finance functions to ensure company success

•Mentor and evaluate the team; providing honest and constructive feedback in regular review meetings in accordance with the company IMPACT performance management program

•Structure the Europe Service and Project organisation to meet the regional strategy

•Implement and maintain European standards, processes and measures for the following functions: 

1.Project management

2.Pre-sales & solution design

3.Third level technical support

4.Customisation and repair workshops

5.Local service engineering

6.Global specialist Installation team

•Creation of cross-border 'virtual' European team, including full integration of global specialist installation (Poland)

•Onboarding of new service and installation partners

•Closure and outsourcing off all non-core functions

•Bringing a common approach to service call handling and allocation functions.

•Standardise project management practices, with implementation of a fit for purpose methodology

•Clarify and communicate the differentiation of order handling / fulfilment and project management, and ensure the correct resources, tools and processes are deployed accordingly

•Improve data practices and alignment to global part code usage, eradicating local process and reporting ambiguity

•Maintain customer service levels to contractual expectation

Person Specification

•Experience of delivering a high level of service across a varied portfolio of Projects, on-time and on-budget

•A track record of delivering service levels and efficiency improvements

•Demonstrable ability to drive change initiatives with a positive impact across an international company

•Firm decision maker, working within agreed authority boundaries

•High proficiency in the management of resources and cost control at a 'detached' level; driving performance by way of managing teams providing service and project management without the need to micro-manage

•Experience of representing the Company as a lead in commercial relationships with Customers and service partners

•Demonstrable experience of efficient task management for a remote workforce

•Experience in leading, coaching and mentoring individuals and teams

•Confident, collaborative, articulate and able to influence at all levels, through effective communication

•Demonstrate sound judgement and effective decision-making skills

•Flexible and adaptable in style, with the ability and willingness to switch from operational "hands on" to high level strategic activities on a daily basis

•Credible presence with ability to build relationships with customers, internal sales managers and own staff

•Calm, clear thinker that operates well under pressure

•Acute business acumen and understanding of organisational issues and challenges

•A high degree of commercial awareness and acumen, capable of reading and managing a P&L

Experience & Qualifications:

•10+ years of related professional management experience

•Fluent in German and English

•Ability to travel internationally up to 20% of working time

•Demonstrable experience of leading organisational redesign / restructuring to ensure a business is fit to meet current market conditions

•Track record of creating and leading high performance multi-functional teams and developing talent

•History of delivering high performing services contracts within a blue-chip customer base

•Strong project management background, including certification to a recognised standard

•Experience leading highly distributed workforces, including engagement and teambuilding of virtual teams

•Experience in recruitment, appraisal, performance management, handling discipline/grievances, coaching etc. 

•Experience with vendor management and outsourcing of services


•Track record of managing operations across a range of European countries

•Knowledge of the security sector, with experience of Safe Storage products or similar

•Able to evidence implementation of a technological improvement or outsource solution which delivered €250k+ annual saving

•Graduate level education or equivalent professional accreditation

•Additional language skills

Place of work: Based from home, ideally within transport distance of Munich or Frankfurt 

Reporting into: VP EMEA 

Reporting team: Approx. 60-80 employees in 5 countries 

Travel: Regular international travel expected (20%)
